Life-cycle driven design of steel structures for reduced embodied carbon

A series of 4 webinar 120-min sessions will be organized on 2 weeks in May 2026:

  • Monday 11/05 + Wednesday 13/05
  • Monday 18/05 + Wednesday 20/05

This training provides a practice-oriented framework for calculating and reducing embodied carbon in steel structures, with a focus on early-stage decision making, high strength steel applications, reuse strategies, and data-driven optioneering. Through guided exercises, real project case studies (including different type of buildings), and interactive discussions, participants will develop skills directly applicable to daily design practice. By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to perform embodied carbon calculations, understand techniques and strategies for reducing embodied carbon emissions, conduct comparative analyses between structural options, integrate EPD based material selection into procurement decisions, and learn how to use data driven tools to design lighter, more durable, and life cycle oriented steel structures.

Participants will receive all course materials, including lecture slides, calculation templates, and worked examples, EPD guidance notes, a step-by-step early-stage embodied carbon calculation worksheet, example parametric comparison, and a selected bibliography of key references and tools to support continued application after the course.

In addition, a practical life-cycle design checklist will be provided to support implementation in daily practice, summarizing key decisions at each project stage from conceptual design to procurement and end-of-life planning. Attendees will also receive a comparative table summarizing current embodied carbon regulations, standards, and reporting frameworks across different countries.

Registration will open soon ! Stay tuned !
