Project ambition

TIMELESS has the goal of developing a novel, sustainable, and multi-hazard resilient structural system for buildings. The project aims to reduce the environmental impact of steel structures by developing solutions that are demountable, reusable, and reversible, requiring minimal or no repairs even in the face of severe natural or man-made hazards. The solutions proposed cover various aspects, including floors, joints, and frames, all designed to ensure adaptability and prolonged material lifespan. High Strength Steel, Shape Memory Alloys, Smart sensors will be integrated to enhance performance and responsiveness. The TIMELESS approach addresses the urgent need to extend the lifetime and value of constructions, thereby reducing the demand for resource-intensive extraction and production processes. By creating structures that can withstand a wide range of hazards while remaining adaptable and easy to deconstruct, TIMELESS aims to contribute to evolve the construction industry's approach to sustainability and resilience.
The project's alignment with the European Green Deal's objectives is evident as it directly contributes to green building practices and bolsters the circular economy. Furthermore, TIMELESS fits the current research goals for steel, emphasizing the application of advanced steel grades and sustainable products. It is also aligned with the European Commission's vision for the steel sector, targeting emissions reduction, circular strategies, and intelligent sustainable solutions. TIMELESS is poised to introduce pioneering advancements in building construction, setting a new industry benchmark for structures that are both resilient and ecologically responsible, keeping the value of products, materials and resources in the economy for as long as possible. TIMELESS success hinges on a diverse European team joining academia, industry and practitioners, taking care of sharing technical knowledge with stakeholders via a systematic dissemination plan
