The famous Centre court in Wimbledon tennis stadium is considerably improving its facilities through a heavy refurbishment. Apart from the rebuilding of the East stand, the major improvement is the construction of a moving roof that will provide full rain cover during the championships. Despite its complexity, the roof was erected with a minimum of disruption. Resting on the very stiff peripheral main frame of the roof, the moving trusses weighting altogether 1100 tonnes supporting a folding fabric demonstrate the versatility of steel in providing elegant an efficient solutions to a complex problem, and thus enhancing the potential of this arena.

Die Anlagen des berühmten Centre Court in Wimbledon haben durch die Generalsanierung und Anpassung an die modernen Anforderungen erheblich an Image gewonnen. Neben dem Neubau der Osttribüne besteht die wesentliche Erneuerung in der Errichtung eines beweglichen Daches, das während der Meisterschaften den vollständigen Schutz vor Regen bietet. Trotz seiner Komplexität wurde das Dach in kurzer Zeit errichtet. Die umlaufende Hauptragkonstruktion stützt die verfahrbaren, in Summe ca. 1.100 Tonnen wiegenden Stahldachbinder. Wieder einmal ist der Einsatz von Stahlkonstruktionen der Beweis für die Lösung komplexer Probleme und dafür, elegante und funktionale Lösungen zu finden.
