For the 2004 Olympic Games, Athens renovated its Olympic Stadium, in particular giving it a new roof that is exceptional both in terms of its size and quality as it is transparent. A suspended structure that partially covers the stands, it consists in a series of double metal arches that support 4750 sheets of polycarbonate with anti-UV and anti-abrasion treatment. Two main arches in 3.5-metre diameter steel tube, measuring 304 metres in length and rising to a maximum height of 78 metres, stretch across the stadium. They bear the cables that support the roof assembly. Weighing a total of 17 000 tonnes, the roof was built in two parts offsite, then mechanically lifted into position after assembly.

Anlässlich der Olympischen Spiele 2004 hat die Stadt Athen ihr Olympiastadion renoviert und mit einem neuen Dach versehen, außergewöhnlich sowohl aufgrund seiner Größe als auch seiner Eigenschaften : es ist transparent. Die einen Teil der Tribünen überspannende Hängekonstruktion besteht aus einer Reihe Metall-Doppelbögen, die 4 750 speziell behandelte Polycarbonat-Platten mit UV-Schutzwirkung und erhöhter Abriebfestigkeit tragen. Zwei Hauptbögen wölben sich über das Stadion; bestehend aus einem Stahlrohr von 3,5 m Durchmesser, mit einer Länge von 304 m erreichen sie am Scheitelpunkt eine Höhe von 78 m. Sie tragen die Seile, welche die gesamte Dachkonstruktion halten. Die Dachkonstruktion mit einem Gesamtgewicht von 17 000 t wurde in 2 Teilen außerhalb des Stadions separat aufgebaut und anschließend hydraulisch über dem Stadion aufgezogen.

À l'occasion des Jeux olympiques de 2004, Athènes a rénové son stade olympique et l'a notamment doté d'une nouvelle toiture exceptionnelle tant par sa taille que par sa qualité puisqu'elle est transparente. Structure suspendue couvrant partiellement les tribunes, elle consiste en une série d'arcs doubles métalliques qui soutiennent 4 750 plaques de polycarbonate traités anti-UV et anti-abrasion. Deux arches principales en tube d'acier de 3,5 m de diamètre, longues de 304 m et culminant à 78 m de hauteur, enjambent le stade. Elles soutiennent les câbles qui maintiennent l'ensemble de la toiture. D'un poids total de 17 000 t, la toiture a été construite en deux parties hors du site olympique pour être, une fois assemblée, hissée de manière hydraulique.
