The 6th International Conference on Thin Walled Structures

The 6th International Conference on Thin Walled Structures

05 – 07 September 2011, Timisoara, Romania
www.ct.upt.ro/ictws2011.htm

The highly successful “International Conference on Thin-walled Structures” series is regarded today by the thin-walled structures community as a major forum for debate and dissemination of knowledge and for mutual exchange of ideas in all areas of research, development, design and innovation pertaining to thin-walled structures. This conference is the sixth in its series, the first five having been held in Glasgow in 1996, Singapore in 1998, Krakow in 2001, Loughborough in 2004 and Brisbane in 2008. The present conference aims to continue the successful series of ICTWS and addresses to thin-walled structures experts including academics, researchers, engineers, designers and fabricators, who are welcome to participate in this international gathering, to present and discuss the recent work in the field.
This edition of the “International Conference on Thin-walled Structures” will take place in Timisoara, Romania, on September 5-7, 2011.
In October 1982, the Department of Steel Structures and Structural Mechanics organised in Timisoara one of the Sessions of the SSRC International Colloquium on the Stability of Steel Structures. In 1992, there started in Timisoara the series of CIMS Conferences, dedicated to Coupled Instability in Steel Structures, while, in 1994, another series was launched, namely the STESSA Conferences, focusing on the behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Areas, both conferences being internationally recognised at the present. Moreover, in 1999, the Department organised the SDSS conference, within the SSRC series dedicated to the Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures. In 2006 the Department organised the ICMS2006 conference (STEEL A NEW AND TRADITIONAL MATERIAL FOR BUILDING - ICMS2006 CONFERENCE), which covered a large spectrum of topics characterising the present and future development of constructional steelwork industry. That conference was connected to the 2006 ECCS Annual Meeting.
The ICTWS2011 conference is organised in conjunction with the EUROSTEEL 2011 Conference (www.eurosteel2011.com) which will be held in Budapest, Hungary between 31.08 and 03.09.2011. A 10% reduced fee will be applied to the participants who attend both conferences and also to ECCS Individual Members (not cumulatively).

Conference main topics

  • Buckling, vibration and optimisation
  • Post-buckling and collapse mechanism
  • Structural crashworthiness
  • Structural dynamics
  • Cyclic and blast loading
  • Fire resistance
  • Fatigue and fracture mechanics
  • Energy absorption characteristics
  • Reliability and safety
  • Manufacturing aspects of thin-walled structures

  • Off-shore structures.

Language

English will be the official language of the Conference, both for oral and printed contributions.

Proceedings

The final acceptance of the papers will be based on their full version, following a peer review by
members of the International Scientific Committee. The accepted papers will be published in a
hardcover volume, which will be ready for the participants at the Conference. Keynote Lectures will
be included in the volume. The Instructions for camera-ready manuscript have already been sent,
together with the Consent to Publish Form, and they can be downloaded from
www.ct.upt.ro/ictws2011.htm.
All accepted papers will be presented during working sessions. Oral presentation is the
unavoidable condition for the publication of a paper in the Proceedings. An accepted paper will be
published in the ICTWS2011 Proceedings, if at least one of the authors registers and presents it within
the Conference. It should be added that a participant is allowed to present no more than two papers at
the ICTWS2011 Conference.
The organisers of the ICTWS2011 Conference, together with the Publishing House, are planning to
propose the Proceedings for ISI Thomson Reuters indexing. Moreover, the organisers have agreed
with the Editors of Thin Walled Structures Journal on publishing a Special Issue, after the
conference, with selected papers from the ICTWS2011. Authors are expected to prepare their papers
carefully, strictly following the guidelines included in the Instruction for Authors, and to upload them (both
Word and Pdf versions) following the link: http://ms.upt.ro/ICTWS2011/, no later than January 30,
2011.
