Access Steel, the online information system on the use of the Eurocodes for steel in construction has been launched on 13th June 2006. The ceremony took place at the Royal Windsor Hotel, in Brussels and gathered more 100 persons from the steel industry, ECCS members and representatives, designers, engineers and architects.

The programme presented several advantages and was qualified of "Google for the Eurocodes" by G. Sedlacek, Chair of the ECCS Technical Management Board (TMB).

Indeed, it has been specifically tailored for construction professionals and their clients to offer guidance through project initiation, scheme development and detailed design. Access steel is easily searchable and free to all registered users. It offers harmonised, quality assured information in English, French, German and Spanish, with comprehensive coverage of Single and Multistorey buildings and residential construction. Special attention is given to the new opportunities for fire safety engineering in the Eurocodes.

The site, www.access-steel.com also includes over 50 interlinked modules on the detailed design of elements, with step by step guidance, full supporting information and worked examples, to give a thorough understanding of how the Eurocodes should be used.
