The industrial design of the structure results in a shape minimizing surface area to volume, and this achieves energy efficiency. The flexibility of steel permitted this to be accomplished effectively.

This is the first bridge built over Spree river since Berlin's two cities were unified. Its most elegant and expressive style benefited from the most modern 3D design methods, and an extremely practical erection procedure.

This well integrated building appears almost as enigmatic watch tower during the day, and, through its perforated cladding, as a shining beacon at night. Clean and succesful detailing of the steel cladding means an efficient structure too.
