Established in 1955, the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork was one of the first European institutions. The celebration of its 50th anniversary is an opportunity to bring together for the first time a selection of one hundred projects built over the past 50 years across Europe, presented in the form of an exhibition inaugurated in Nice and in the present issue of Architecture Steel Stahl Acier.
The constructions, small and large, of various types - from single dwellings to industrial buildings, museums and stadiums, as well, of course, as civil structures - provide an overview of the construction possibilities and architectural potential provided by steel, notably when used for structural purposes. "Fifty years of steel architecture in Europe" highlights through this overview the continuing relevance of the qualities of this material: possibility for standardisation and prefabrication, flexibility of use, advanced technology, diversity of components and appearance - grades of steel that are adapted and/or adaptable depending on the part of the building where they are used - and a modern material in terms of both its aesthetic appeal and technical applications.

Im Jahre 1955 wurde als eine der ersten europäischen Institutionen die Europäische Konvention für Stahlbau gegründet. Zum 50-jährigen Bestehen dieser Organisation findet in Nizza eine Ausstellung statt, in der erstmalig eine Fotosammlung von hundert Bauwerken zu sehen ist, die in den letzten 50 Jahren europaweit errichtet wurden. Diese Fotos sind auch in der vorliegenden Ausgabe der Fachzeitschrift Architecture Steel Stahl Acier veröffentlicht.
Diese kleineren und grösseren Bauwerke verschiedenen Typs - wie Einfamilienhaus oder Industriegebäude, Museum oder Stadion, ohne die Ingenieurbauten mit künstlerischem Anspruch zu vergessen - bieten eine Übersicht über die bautechnischen Möglichkeiten des Baumaterials Stahl und sein architektonisches Potential, insbesondere wenn er in Form einer Struktur Verwendung findet. In der Ausstellung " 50 Jahre Stahlbau in Europa " werden dem Besucher die auch heute noch interessanten Qualitäten dieses Baumaterials näher gebracht : Möglichkeit der Standardisierung und Vorfertigung, Flexibilität bei der Verwendung, modernste Technologie, Vielfalt der Bauelemente und abwechslungsreiches Erscheinungsbild der je nach Gebäudeabschnitt verwendeten und/oder verwendbaren Stahlsorten sowie moderne Ästhetik und technische Umsetzung.

Fondée en 1955, la Convention Européenne de la Construction Métallique a été l'une des premières institutions européennes. La célébration de son cinquantième anniversaire est l'occasion de réunir pour la première fois un choix de cent réalisations construites depuis 50 ans de part l'Europe, présentées sous la forme d'une exposition inaugurée à Nice et dans le présent numéro de Architecture Steel Stahl Acier.
Ces édifices petits et grands, de typologies variées - de la maison individuelle au bâtiment industriel en passant par le musée ou encore le stade sans oublier les ouvrages d'art - donnent un aperçu des possibilités constructives qu'offre l'acier et de ses potentialités architecturales, notamment lorsqu'il est utilisé en structure. " 50 ans d'architecture métallique en Europe " met en lumière à travers un parcours les qualités toujours actuelles de ce matériau : possibilité de standardisation et de préfabrication, souplesse d'utilisation, technologie avancée, diversité d'éléments et d'aspects - des aciers adaptés et/ou adaptables suivant la partie du bâtiment à laquelle ils participent -, et une modernité à la fois esthétique et technique.
